Strandfontein Beach is situated on the False Bay coastline and is well known for having the biggest tidal swimming pool in the southern hemisphere. It is interesting to note that the latest Free Willy movie was filmed in and around this tidal swimming pool!
Residents as well as domestic and international tourists frequent the beach. The water is warm but in the early summer months the beach can be quite windy.
Numerous events are staged on the beach that will appeal to beachgoers and spectators alike.
The beach is known for its relatively safe bathing conditions. Voluntary lifesaving clubs including the Strandfontein Lifesaving Club as well as the local NSRI are situated here. Lifeguards are on duty during the Blue Flag season (1 December to 31 March). There is plenty of parking, enough for seven hundred vehicles and lots of space for everyone. There is also ice cream, snacks and cold drinks available on sale from the local beach vendors. The beach offers three kiosk facilities, a tidal pool, seating areas, an amphitheatre and a braai area.
