The City of Cape Town adopted an events policy in 2008. In terms of this policy, we partner with numerous event organisers and federations and assist them with hosting events in Cape Town.
Our role in promoting Cape Town as a venue for such events is to co-ordinate the support services for events. This includes the training and provision of volunteers.
We have a limited budget, which means that requests for partnerships must be submitted well in advance, and all events need to meet legislative requirements. Stringent measures are put in place to ensure that events are held in an environment which ensures the safety of participants and spectators.
Our events information pack contains full details pertaining to partnership requests. For further information on the events permitting process please contact the Events Office on 021 483 9013 or e-mail events.permit@capetown.gov.za.
Beach events
To enable us to balance the demand for using the City’s beaches as a location for events with environmental and other concerns, we have instituted a procedure for requesting permission to hold an event on the beach.
