The overall aim of the fare integration programme is to design, implement and maintain an Integrated Fare Collection System for the city of Cape Town. The process consists of three interrelated but separate parts, namely:

• Fare system analysis which culminates in a fare policy
• Operational systems analysis which culminates in the establishment of an independent operations centre or clearing house
  
• a ticket system analysis that culminates in a standardised ticket system
  
  

The subject of this report is the fare system analysis that investigates the rationalisation of public transport fares in the city of Cape Town.
