The PPU also acts as a link between line departments and subcouncils in planning and implementing administrative public engagement processes; as well as playing an important role in training stakeholders in how to hold successful public hearings; and co-ordinates and monitors public participation processes.

Finally, the PPU drafts an annual programme and calendar for all public participation processes, manages the annual review of all public participation processes, and compiles an annual report on public participation.
