Motorists travelling on the R27 should be aware of a disruption to the free flow of traffic for the next three weeks near the Racecourse Road/R27 Intersection. This is to allow for work to be conducted for the construction of Cape Town’s new Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) system.
Construction will necessitate some route deviations for motorists travelling past this intersection. The work has already started and will continue in phases over a three week period, depending on the weather conditions and the availability of the necessary raw materials.
The work will be done in phases in order to alleviate as far as possible any disruption to the intersection.
Directional signage will be erected to inform motorists of the following deviations:
- Inbound traffic will be diverted after the Diep River Bridge over the median on the R27 to pass the Racecourse Road intersection
- Outgoing traffic will be unable to make a right turn into Racecourse Road, and instead must deviate along Loxton Road and Koeberg Road to reach Racecourse Road. This will only be during phase two of the road works, between 11 and 18 May 2010
The City apologises to residents for the inconvenience and for the short notice period and thanks them for their patience during construction. The City has tried to reduce the inconvenience by ensuring that alternative routes are available during this period.
