Motorists are warned to expect some disruption to the free flow of traffic at the intersections of Milner Street and Boundary Road with the R27 this weekend, 13 and 14 March 2010.

This is to allow for the continuation of construction of Cape Town’s new Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) system along the R27 from Milner Road to Racecourse Road.

Engineers commenced work after the morning rush hour peak on Friday 12 March and will finish their work before the morning rush hour on Monday 15 March 2010. In order to finish the work as quickly as possible and minimise disruption, work will continue after normal working hours.

Motorists travelling past these intersections must note the following alternative routes that will be in place to accommodate the flow of traffic. Directional information signage will be erected to guide motorists through the construction area.

• No traffic travelling along the R27 will be able to turn either right or left into Milner Street. Normal traffic flow from Milner Street into the R27 will be possible
• Traffic intending to turn into Milner Street will have to detour via Neptune Street, and then travel back along the R27 on the R27 service road, and rejoin at Milner Street
• No access to Koeberg Road will be possible from the R27 via Boundary Rd. Motorists wishing to access Koeberg Road will need to detour via Loxton Road and get back onto Koeberg Road
  
  

The contraflow system between Loxton and Broad Roads to allow construction of the IRT lanes in this section of the R27 is progressing well and the contraflow system is scheduled to be lifted at the end of March.

The City apologises to residents for the inconvenience and thanks them for their patience during construction.
