Temporary road closure: Lower Plein and Corporation Streets, Cape Town city centre

The Grand Parade

During the World Cup, the Grand Parade will transform into one of the city’s largest Fan Parks, giving soccer fans the opportunity to watch the games on large screens in a festive atmosphere.

In order to do this, the City has made plans to accommodate the traders who usually operate from the Grand Parade in the areas surrounding it. Sections of the roads surrounding the Grand Parade will therefore be temporarily closed from 06:00 on Saturday 1 May to 18:00 on Sunday 18 July 2010.

The following sections will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • Lower Plein Street, south-bound carriageway between Darling Street and Castle Street
  • Corporation Street, between Darling Street and Longmarket Street

Motorists are advised to please avoid these sections of the road and instead use alternative routes.

The City apologises to residents for any inconvenience these closures may cause. With the World Cup less than two months away, preparations are well underway to ensure that Cape Town is ready to host the world.
