The Water and Sanitation Department will shut down the water supply to a large part of Gordon’s Bay on Wednesday 2 February in order to carry out urgent repairs and upgrades to the water supply network in the area. The water supply will be interrupted from 18:30 on Wednesday until 06:00 on Thursday.
The areas affected are those being served from the Mountainside Reservoir i.e. all suburbs east of Faure Marine Drive and south of Octopus Road including Harbour Island and Cayman Beach.
The upgrade work involves the installation of control valves on the 300 mm diameter water pipeline at the intersection of Lancaster and Sir Lowry’s Pass Roads which feeds the Gordon’s Bay area. This will facilitate the reduction in size of the area affected by/during pipe repairs or maintenance and thereby effectively reducing the number of consumers that will be impacted negatively during a water pipe burst. This cannot be achieved currently.
Residents are urged to store water in clean, sealed containers for domestic purposes to minimize the inconvenience.
A water tanker will be stationed at the Spar Shopping Complex, Lancaster Road from 18:00 – 23:00 on Wednesday night and from 05:00 on Thursday morning, in the event of residents requiring water during this period. The public will be required to provide their own containers/bottles.
Please ensure that all taps are closed for the duration of the interruption to prevent any chance of water wastage or water damage being incurred when the water supply and pressure is restored and nobody is at home.
The City apologises for any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that these measures are implemented in order to enhance service delivery.
