Have your say on the proposed amendments to the City’s Integrated Waste Management By-law

Solid Waste collection

The City of Cape Town’s Integrated Waste Management By-law, which was promulgated on 21 August 2009, requires minor amendments so that it can be effectively enforced and aligned with other legislation.

For example, it has been proposed that the definition of ‘waste’ in section 1 be aligned with the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008), and that section 3 needs to be amended to align service categories for waste management with the City’s Tariff By-Law.

The substitution of Section 23 is also necessary in order to allow for the proper administration of fines. In addition, the Schedule of Repealed By-laws is also amended to include remaining by-laws of previous administrations.

Copies of the City of Cape Town: Integrated Waste Management Amendment By-law, 2010 may be obtained here.
