The Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2014 is well underway in host city, Cape Town, and many more Group A and B matches are scheduled for the Cape Town and Athlone stadiums over the coming fortnight.
Exciting clashes are lined up for Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday this week, beginning with another Group A double-header featuring Bafana Bafana vs. Mali and Nigeria vs. Mozambique on Wednesday, 15 January 2014, at Cape Town Stadium.
This week Group B fixtures will include two matches at Athlone Stadium, with Zimbabwe taking on Uganda and Burkina Faso coming up against Morocco on Thursday, 16 January 2014, as well as Mozambique taking on Mali on Sunday, 19 January 2014 to determine the group’s quarter-finalists.
Meanwhile, also on Sunday, Group A action will continue at Cape Town Stadium when Bafana Bafana squares off against the Super Eagles for top-of-log position.
Football fans from all over the continent are expected to become a familiar sight once again on the city’s fan walk.
Event transport services will include stadium shuttle services, park-and-ride facilities, trunk and feeder services, after-hours bus routes and free train and MyCiTi bus rides for passengers with match tickets.
‘International tournaments like Orange CHAN bring together South Africans from all walks of life and help to grow Cape Town as an international soccer city and the events capital of Africa. This in turn boosts tourism and the local economy as these events draw fans and media from across the continent, placing the Mother City in the pan-African spotlight,’ says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Marketing, Councillor Grant Pascoe.
Tickets are being sold in three phases, and range from R40 to R200. The Phase 2 ticket sales campaign currently underway offers fans discounts of up to 15%. Tickets are available countrywide from Shoprite/Checkers stores and Computicket.
