The City of Cape Town has launched a new motor vehicle registration and licensing website.
The new site provides useful information for motorists and businesses with vehicles registered by the City. It features a list of Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing offices, a handy Frequently Asked Questions section and an online vehicle licence payment facility. It can be accessed by clicking here, or via the Licences section on the Services and Departments webpage located on www.capetown.gov.za.
Trevor Blake, Director: Revenue says the site should be a one-stop destination for all vehicle registration and licence queries. “It aims to reduce the number of telephone enquiries and the queues in the City’s Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing offices by facilitating access to information. Once people know what to bring with them to these offices, their frustration levels will decrease as well."
“The site is dynamic and as additional information becomes available, it will be updated and improved. We are particularly excited about the online vehicle licence payment facility, and have been receiving lots of positive feedback from motorists who’ve tested it.”
The new online vehicle licence payment facility allows residents to pay their vehicle licence fees by doing an electronic funds transfer (EFT) from their banking website.
The payment procedure is easy to follow, and requires only that the resident/business completes an online form on the site to confirm their details and obtain the City’s banking details and a deposit reference number. Once they have this, they can then complete an EFT from their banking website.
Residents who don’t want to wait for this information, which usually takes two working days to send, can obtain it from the City’s Call Centre on 0860 103 089.
Once the EFT is received, the licence will be posted within five working days.
The new payment channel is intended to complement the City’s existing payment channels, which include:
