City earns top publishing accolades

City News

The City of Cape Town earned several awards at the annual SA Publication Forum’s Corporate Publication Competition, held in Midrand on Friday, 28 August.

The City’s Corporate Publications Head, Aletta Kruger, was chosen as Editor of the Year out of eight finalists. Three of the publications she manages received a number of awards.

‘Contact’, the City’s staff newspaper, was awarded the trophy for Best Corporate Newspaper for the third year running, and the City’s newsletter for residents, ‘City News’ , was placed third in the same category.

‘Contact’ was placed third in the overall Best Corporate Publication category. The winner was the Mercedes customer magazine, and second place went to the Shuttleworth Foundation’s Hip2B2 magazine.

Both publications also received certificates of excellence for writing, design and communication.

The City’s 2008/9 annual report and executive summary were placed second in the Best Annual Report category, and the judges commended the clear but cost-effective way the City had addressed the complex requirements for local government financial reporting.

The SA Publication Forum’s competition attracted more than 130 entries from a wide range of top corporate organisations and industries this year, including airlines, the automotive industry, banking, insurance and academic institutions. The City of Cape Town was the only local government entrant.
