The City of Cape Town’s Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department will host its annual Recreation Festival tomorrow, Saturday 6 October in Mitchells Plain.
Over 3 000 children and their families are expected to join in the fun and games on offer, which include alternative sporting and recreational activities over and above mainstream sports such as soccer, rugby and cricket.
Date: Saturday, 6 October 2012
Venue: Swartklip Indoor Centre, Tafelsig Road (off Spine Road), Mitchells Plain
Time: 10:00 – 14:30
“Children of all ages can participate in a range of activities, including a five kilometre fun run/walk, adventure recreation, indigenous games, jumping castle, giant games, mind games, five-a-side soccer and a kiddies’ corner, while the rest of the family can enjoy entertainment and live performances.
“Through the Recreation Festival, the City seeks to encourage family involvement in recreational activities and create an opportunity for children from various communities to interact with each other in a fun, non-competitive environment. Initiatives such as this encourage alternative sporting codes to grow their membership, resulting in more children becoming active.
“The Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department will also make use of the City’s highly regarded and dedicated volunteers from its diverse volunteer programmes to ensure the success of the event,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services, Councillor Tandeka Gqada.
