Celebrate Reconciliation Day with free Concert in the Park

The City of Cape Town’s Arts and Culture Department will be hosting a free concert at Wynberg Park on Reconciliation Day, Wednesday 16 December 2009.

The Concert in the Park is an annual event to encourage and celebrate reconciliation and national unity through music. Families from different cultural backgrounds are encouraged to bring along a picnic or use the park's braai facilities and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment for all. The event will begin at 12:00 and end at 18:00, when the park closes.

The music lineup will feature well known Cape Town bands and individuals, and various community artists such as Chad Saaiman, Hot Water, Tucan Tucan and The Rudimentals.

The programme will kick off on Monday 14 December 2009 with an information session to members of the public who are interested in the music industry. Music technology, business management and pitfalls in the art industry, publishing and distributing, copyright laws, royalties, song-writing skills, registering of song and market accessibility will be discussed. The information session will be held at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone and as spaces are limited, bookings need to be made via Kani Naidoo on 082 9263647.

“The concert is our way of showing that we encourage local talent and the legitimate buying of authentic South African music,” says Lesley Truter, Project Developer, Arts and Culture.
“We’re also trying encourage communities to reclaim their public parks with positive initiatives like these to discourage the use of public spaces for anti-social types of behaviour. We urge Captonians to support us in this endeavour.”

The City’s Come and Play Department will entertain children with jumping castles, games and face painting. Parking will be on a first come, first service basis, and will be supervised by security personnel.
