City rugby fans can catch Springbok captain Jean de Villiers and national flanker Siya Kolisi in their first pre-season game at the Cape Town Stadium this Saturday, 9 February 2013.
De Villiers will captain the DHL Stormers team when they take on the Regent Boland Cavaliers on the weekend.
The exhibition match is being hosted by the City of Cape Town and the public are encouraged to show their support for the province’s rugby teams. Both teams will be using the match as a key warm-up before the start of the Super Rugby and Vodacom Cup seasons. The annual game is seen as critical in the build-up to the official rugby season.
Stormers coach Allister Coetzee announced his team selection after a training session in Bellville yesterday. There were a few changes from last week’s team who played against the Cheetahs. Andries Bekker, Deon Fourie and Rynhardt Elstadt come onto the starting line-up while De Villiers and Kolisi return to action after injuries took both Springboks out of play last year.
This will be the second pre-season game for the teams. Speaking at a press conference on the selection, Coetzee said the weekend’s game was important for player fitness and game tactics ahead of the rugby season.
Gates will open at 11:00. There is a curtain raiser between the Boland Invitational and the DHL Western Province Rugby Side at 12:30. The main game kicks off at 14:45.
Tickets cost R50 and R75 and are available from Computicket, Shoprite and Checkers.
