2010 lecture at Green Point Visitors' Centre

The Green Point Stadium Visitors’ Centre is to host a lecture entitled “Growing dreams through the beautiful game of soccer” as part of its 2010 lecture series.

The lecture, which will be held on 8th April 2009, will be given by John Perlman, former AM Live Presenter on SAFM. The focus will be on the Dreamfields Project, which according to John, aims to "put resources for playing soccer into township and rural schools across South Africa — quickly, efficiently and in a way that reaches the most remote corners of our country.” In its simplest form, Dreamfields is all about a DreamBag which contains enough kit to equip a 15-player team.

The Dreamfields Project began in October 2007. To date more than 500 DreamBags have been given out country-wide, and five soccer fields have been built – all in rural areas. Two more are currently being constructed. “The Dreamfields journey has been joyous and satisfying, but it has also raised some tough questions – and the answers are not yet in” says John.
