About myconnect/contactless cards

myconnect cardIn line with modern transport systems across the world, MyCiTi provides a convenient way to travel.

How it works is that you need to get a myconnect card loaded with money for travel.

TAP IN by holding your card against the validator when you enter a station or board a bus and TAP OUT by doing the same when you leave a bus or exit from a station, and the correct fare will be automatically deducted.

The card-based fare system saves you the hassle of finding cash every day, cuts down on time queuing at the ticket kiosk and allows you to budget better by loading enough money in advance to travel for a week, month, or more.

It is also in line with regulations of the national Department of Transport so that eventually these cards can be used interchangeably on transport systems across the country.
Banks and transport entities, including minibus taxi organisations, are introducing contactless cards that can be used to travel on MyCiTi. They include a Mastercard supported card with a PayPass logo, and Visa supported card with a payWave logo.

These cards as well as the myconnect card can also be used for purchases of up to R200 at a time at any retailers that allow debit card transactions.

Paper tickets for the airport service are available at Civic Centre and Airport station kiosks for children and others using concessionary fares. Adults can either use their myconnect card or purchase a paper ticket for this service.
