Capetonians are encouraged to try out the new MyCiTi bus services along the Table View trunk route and in the inner city this weekend. This will give them a chance to test the system so that they can commute efficiently and easily to work and school from Monday 16 May 2011.
Buses are scheduled to run in 10, 15 and 20 minute intervals, depending on the route and time, as described in the timetables below. Because the service is still in its start-up phases, buses may also run before and after these times and timetable changes may be implemented to improve the service. Passengers are urged to take careful note of the timetables before using the service.
On Saturday 14 May 2011, two of the three new MyCiTi services will start operating on schedule, with buses stopping at every station along the red trunk lanes between the Table View and Civic Centre stations. The inner-city service for this phase will also begin on this date, running to the V & A Waterfront, the main train station, the Loop and Long Street areas, and Gardens.
This follows the successful first week of the new system, which began on Monday 09 May 2011 with an express service between the Table View and Civic Centre stations. This service ran on the hour in each direction, only stopping at the Table View and Civic Centre stations.
“We are delighted at the positive feedback from people who used the service this week. Most were impressed at its efficiency, thanks to the dedicated bus lanes. We would love to see full buses this weekend,” said the City’s Media Manager, Kylie Hatton.
“This is a chance for all Capetonians to use a safe, efficient, very comfortable new bus service to visit the attractions of the inner city, as well as the beaches and shopping centres along the West Coast route.
“Travelling on the MyCiTi buses this weekend will also help commuters to learn how the service works, so they can use it comfortably on Monday. Passengers will be able to buy their tickets beforehand, so they don’t need to queue for tickets on Monday,” she said.
Tickets will be on sale at all of the trunk stations and on the feeder buses. The fare for the Gardens-Civic-Waterfront service in the inner city will be R5,00 for a trip of any distance, and tickets on the trunk route will cost R10,00. However, the R10,00 trunk route tariff includes a free journey on the inner-city feeder, as long as the passenger transfers at the trunk station and does not leave the station.

Launch details
From Saturday 14 May 2011, the full trunk service between the Table View and Civic Centre stations will start operating. The buses will stop at all stations along the trunk route, and the timetable will follow the Starter Services schedule.
This will see buses depart every 10 minutes in peak hour, and every 20 minutes the rest of the day, along the trunk route. The interim inner-city feeder route, called the Gardens-Civic Centre-Waterfront route, will also begin operating on this date. This route will run between the Civic Centre and the Stadium precinct, the Waterfront, the Loop and Long Street areas and Gardens.
Tickets for the Gardens-Civic Centre-Waterfront feeder route will cost R5,00 per trip, but travel on the Gardens-Civic Centre-Waterfront feeder route is free when used in conjunction with a R10,00 trunk route trip (as described below).
Over the weekend of Saturday 21 May and Sunday 22 May 2011, the three Table View feeder services will also start operating, and the service will be running fully by Monday 23 May. These services will cover the areas of Big Bay, Table View, Parklands and Blaauwberg – also linking up to the trunk service. As with the feeder route in town, travel on these three feeder routes will cost R5,00 per trip, but is free when used in conjunction with a R10,00 trunk route trip. People using the feeder route in town and in the Table View area will benefit even further as travel on the feeder route in town will still be free even though the passenger has already had the benefit of travelling for free on the Table View feeder routes.
