City will continue to provide services in Deep Frieze
31 JANUARY 2012

City will continue to provide services in Deep Frieze

The City of Cape Town will continue to provide water to the community of Deep Frieze in Macassar.

The community, which lives on land privately owned by Annenprop, as determined by the Western Cape High Court, recently protested the decision to use temporary facilities for water and sanitary provision in the face of damages to the water pipe system of their community, which has partly resulted in R2 million arrears.

There are outstanding court proceedings which the City respects and until these proceedings are finalised we will continue to provide services.

Furthermore, the City is legally pursuing the possibility of purchasing the portion of the land the community lives on from Annenprop to ensure that we can continue to provide services.

While this action, and any other legal outcomes are being pursued, the City will repair the water system in question.

The City of Cape Town is committed to becoming more caring. Part of that mission is ensuring that we provide basic services to all communities.
