SAPS assist Metro Police in arresting officer for drug possession
MEDIA RELEASE
NO. 621 / 2010
24 AUGUST 2010

In a joint operation last night, 23 August, the City’s Metro Police and the South African Police Services (SAPS) arrested a Metro Police officer in Mitchells Plain after TIK was found in his possession.

The arrest follows a lengthy investigation into the officer’s suspected illegal activities. His service firearm, holster and two magazines loaded with 9mm rounds were confiscated.

The operation also led to the arrest of the officer’s wife on charges of drug-dealing, following a raid on their house. Another suspect, allegedly linked to the officer, was arrested later that evening for possession of narcotics following a raid on her house.

“We have an obligation to act when any wrongdoing by our members is brought to our attention. This arrest is the result of good cooperation between the Metro Police and the SAPS during the investigation. Metro Police will continue to maintain its zero tolerance approach in our fight against crime, irrespective of whether the culprit is one of our members,” said Metro Police Deputy Chief, Yolanda Faro.

The officer will appear before the Executive Director: Safety and Security on Wednesday in a pre-suspension hearing.
