Metro Police clamp down on drunk driving in Delft and Gugulethu
MEDIA RELEASE
NO. 636/ 2010
30 AUGUST 2010

Metro Police officers arrested 34 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, and another for possession of a stolen vehicle during operations held in Delft and Gugulethu on Sunday 29 August.

During roadblocks in Delft, officers arrested 17 motorists. Later that day, whilst on patrol, two Metro Police officers were informed by members of the public that a vehicle had been stolen in Eindhoven.

The two officers immediately travelled to the scene where they found a suspect with the vehicle. Once it was established that the vehicle was in fact stolen, the suspect was arrested and the vehicle recovered.

In a joint operation with the South African Police Services in Gugulethu, Metro Police arrested eight motorists for drunk driving.

“Our officers had a very busy and successful weekend. Apart from the arrests made, 214 traffic fines were issued and 39 by-law offences recorded in the area,” said Metro Police Deputy Chief, Yolanda Faro.
