MEDIA RELEASE NO. 62/ 2010 02 FEBRUARY 2010
On Wednesday 03 February, Executive Mayor Dan Plato will continue the next phase of his community outreach programme, ‘Taking the City to the People’, where he aims to hear firsthand what residents feel are their most important service delivery needs.
Last year the Executive Mayor visited over 40 communities across the city. “I have gained an invaluable understanding of the challenges that are facing the residents of Cape Town. With the next round of public meetings I intend to reach more citizens and increase the lines of communication between the public and my office” said Mayor Plato.
The Mayor has 44 meetings planned for this leg of the programme which will run until 29 April 2010.
The City of Cape Town is fully committed to engaging with its residents about what they feel should be done to further promote service delivery in Cape Town. As part of this, the City will also explain to residents the limitations within which it operates, so that they can understand that compromises need to be made. This in-depth communication will allow an ongoing dialogue between residents and the City’s leadership so that the best possible outcome can be reached under the existing constraints.
The Mayor invites all residents to attend a public meeting in their area. At the meeting residents will be able to highlight major issues that are affecting their community as a whole. For personal concerns, residents are encouraged to utilise the City’s existing political structures such as Councillors, Subcouncils and Ward Forums.
All media are welcome to attend.
