The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille and the Mayoral Committee Member for Utility Services, Councillor Shehaam Sims, will this morning launch the pilot project for the City’s Water Services Emergency Phone.
This telephone emergency service is part of the City’s plans to improve service delivery in informal settlements.
This pilot project will enable residents in informal settlements to communicate directly with the City’s Water and Sanitation Department to report any defects in basic service infrastructure such as leaking taps and blocked sewerages.

Note to editors: The Water Services Emergency Phone consists of a TETRA mobile radio, a battery and charger unit as well as a programmable controller unit. These components are enclosed in a durable, fibre impregnated, PVC transportable enclosure. The complete enclosure then fits into a high security, lockable, stainless steel wall mount bracket.
