Fans encouraged to use public transport to get to Nelson Mandela Challenge
MEDIA RELEASE
NO. 832 / 2010
11 NOVEMBER 2010

The City of Cape Town would like to urge fans attending the Nelson Mandela Challenge at the Cape Town Stadium on 17 November to use public transport to get to and from the game. Extra event-related public transport will supplement the usual public transport system, and Metrorail has arranged for additional trains to run after the match. This will ease the anticipated high traffic flow and ensure that fans get to the game on time.

There are a wide range of transport options available to fans, running from the suburbs to the CBD and then from the CBD to the stadium and back. The Cape Town Rail Station, Golden Acre bus terminus, main minibus-taxi rank, metered taxi ranks, long-distance bus terminal, fan walk and Civic Centre bus station are all within walking distance of the Cape Town Stadium.

Information on both the regular and event-related public transport options is available 24/7 from the City’s toll-free Transport Information Centre on 0800 65 64 63. Any event-related transport enquiries can be sent to transport.info@capetown.gov.za

Fans are encouraged to start their journey early to avoid disappointment. The various security checks in place at the stadium often take time and it is best to try and get there early to avoid disappointment.

The match starts at 21:30, but gates open at 17:00 and spectators will be treated to a host of entertainment beforehand including a curtain raiser which starts at 18:00.

Match tickets entitle fans to free access to event-related rail services and/or the dedicated event shuttle services. The following transport options are in place for fans travelling to and from the game:
