City to act against motorists illegally using BRT lane on the N2 on Wednesday morning
MEDIA RELEASE
NO. 640 / 2010
31 AUGUST 2010

Alderman JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, will tomorrow morning join the City’s Traffic Services on an operation focussing on the illegal use of the BMT lane on the N2.

The Ghost Squad, including the Taxi Ghost Squad, as well as Road Haulage Unit will be deployed to fine and/or arrest all transgressors.

“A year ago we undertook to ensure that regular operations are held to restore compliance with the BMT lane on the N2 in peak hour traffic in the morning. We believe that regular visible law enforcement and the embarrassment caused to motorists who get pulled over is the most effective way to ensure compliance with the rules of the BMT lane. It is far more effective than enforcement by cameras.”

“I would therefore like to invite the media(print, radio and TV) to join the Ghost Squad tomorrow and help the City in ensuring the success of the enforcement operation by ‘naming and shaming’ motorists who transgress on the BMT lane,” says Smith.

Date: Wednesday 01 September

Time: 06:30 -09:00

Venue: Gallows Hill Traffic Department, Green Point. Transport will be provided from here.
