City’s Mayco Member for Health visits Dunoon Clinic to assess plans for facility’s improvement
Media release
24 JANUARY 2012

This City of Cape Town is addressing concerns expressed by community members about conditions at the City’s Dunoon Clinic.

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Health, Councillor Lungiswa James, will visit Dunoon Clinic and meet with Health Forum members and residents at 15:00 on Wednesday 25 January to hear their concerns and discuss plans for improvements at the facility.

“As part of our commitment to being a Caring City, we strive to provide excellent health care facilities to all residents,” said Councillor James.

The Dunoon Clinic was built as a temporary facility. The Provincial Government of the Western Cape has commenced with the process of providing a permanent facility that will be completed in 2014.

In the interim the City has set aside R1 million from the Capital Budget to improve the current facility.

The following improvements will be carried out:
  • A skylight is to be installed to allow for additional light and better ventilation
  • The pharmacy will be extended
  • The entrance to the facility will be renovated allowing for better access
  • A new TB waiting area will be built
  • The ground will be levelled to ensure easier access for disabled persons
  • Extensive upgrading of the electrical system will be conducted

The improvements will begin in June 2012 and will be completed by the end of this year.
