City invites public to comment on IRT/MyCiTi Business Plan by end August
MEDIA RELEASE
NO. 585 / 2010
10 AUGUST 2010

The City of Cape Town has made available the latest Business Plan for the MyCiTi Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) System and has invited members of the public to comment. The deadline for comment is 31 August 2010.

The MyCiTi system is an initiative to transform public transport in Cape Town. The City plans to promote the integration of all transport options into a coherent public transport service for Capetonians and visitors alike.

Currently, the City is in the process of implementing Phase 1A of the MyCiTi system, with its main emphasis at present on the bus rapid transit (BRT) component.

It comprises a shuttle to the Cape Town Stadium during events, and BRT services in the inner city (from as far as Hout Bay), from the airport, and along the corridor from Atlantis, Blaauwberg and Dunoon to the inner city. This includes newly developed, high-density residential areas as well as low-income communities.

The first version of the Business Plan for this Phase is now out of date and Council approved Version 2 of the Business Plan on 28 July 2010, for public comment, with the aim to finalise and adopt the plan by October 2010.

The Business Plan, including an overview of it, and other related documents, is available at the City’s municipal buildings and libraries, as well as on the IRT page of the City’s website at www.capetown.gov.za/en/irt, follow the link to ‘Public participation’, and then to ‘Business Plan’.

Comments must be posted to Mike Marsden, Executive Director: Transport, Roads and Major Projects, City of Cape Town, P O Box 298, Cape Town 8000, or faxed to 021 400 5697 or e-mailed to beverley.ball@capetown.gov.za by no later than Tuesday 31 August 2010.
