The City of Cape Town’s Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department, in partnership with Challenge Cape Town, will host a Media Briefing to launch the Challenge Cape Town Triathlon which will be taking place in November 2011.
Challenge Cape Town is an iron-distance triathlon and the organisers of the Challenge series have earmarked Cape Town for its inaugural event on the African continent.
Details of the media briefing are as follows:
Date: Thursday 31 March
Time: 17:00 – 18:00
Venue: Cape Town Stadium, Level 00, Foyer A
All media are welcome to attend.
The triathlon boasts a 226 km course which will attract a host of international triathletes. It includes a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km one-lap bike course which promises to be one of the toughest in the Challenge series with over 2 000 metres of climbing, through the Constantia Winelands, including the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive, along the coastal route as it skirts around Table Mountain and heads out to Khayelitsha and the Indian Ocean coastline and a 42,2 km marathon.
Current SA Ironman champion Raynard Tissink, alongside Florida Ironman champion James Cunnama and Challenge Barcelona champion, Lucie Zelenkova, are confirmed entries for the race. Many more professional triathletes have expressed interest in the new event.
