Green light for new Bardale secondary school
The Provincial Government plans to build a new secondary school in Jury Road, Bardale to serve the community of 1 700 families. Due to the urgent need to build a prefabricated facility in time for the 2010 academic year, the City Council gave conditional approval for prior occupation.

Cape Town attracts investments worth R1,24 billion
Tabling the 2008/09 Annual Report at the first City Council meeting for 2010, Executive Mayor Dan Plato said that the City had attracted investments totalling R1,24 billion. The municipality also achieved record levels of expenditure, as well as its sixth consecutive unqualified audit.

Council approves third bond issue
The City plans to issue its third municipal bond of some R2 billion between March and May, depending on market conditions, to finance approved capital expenditure. The previous two bond issues were over-subscribed.

City follows King III Code
The City Council has adopted the third King Code of Governance 2009 as its official governing guidelines.

City leases building to Migrant Museum
The Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum in the Helderberg has received the green light to lease the Old Community Hall and Hostel 33 in Lwandle, Strand for 10 years. The City Council approved the lease on condition that the facility is used for training purposes.

City considers alternative sites for Grand Parade traders
The City is investigating alternative sites for Grand Parade traders during the Fifa World Cup when the Parade will become the official Fifa Fan Fest from 1 May to 18 July 2010. Two possible sites are at Harrington Square and Riebeeck Square, both in the CBD.

City approves World Cup transport tariffs
The City approved the tariffs for two new Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) routes, which will be in operation during the 2010 World Cup. The cost for a trip from the airport to the city will be R50. Passengers on the inner city looped service will pay R8 per trip.
