OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)
The OPAC is a service provided by the City of Cape Town which allows the public access to the catalogue in order to search for library material. It also allows library patrons access to view outstanding and reserved items as well as renew library material.
Provincial Library Services
The Provincial Library Service of the Western Cape, together with local authorities, provides one of the most comprehensive library services in South Africa, lending books, periodicals, newspapers, CDs, videos and professional publications to public libraries, which in turn, lend them to residents and visitors.
Library Service staff facilitate the selection, acquisition, preparation, maintenance and distribution of library material and equipment on loan to local authorities.
National Library of South Africa
The National Library of South Africa is mandated by the National Library of South Africa Act to collect and preserve published documents and make them accessible.
Centre for the Book
The Centre for the Book is a unit of the National Library of South Africa. Its mission is to promote a South African culture of reading, writing and publishing in all local languages, and easy access to books for all South Africans.
Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA)
The Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) is a professional non-profit organisation uniting and representing all institutions and people working in libraries and information services in South Africa.
The Smart Cape Access Point Project is an initiative of the City of Cape Town. Its objective is to ensure that all residents have access to basic information and communication technologies, free of charge.
