About fire safety

safetyFire safety measures are vital in preventing, eliminating, or reducing hazards that contribute to the occurrence and spread of fire. To best implement these measures, which include regularly inspecting existing/new buildings, dangerous goods vehicles, ensuring fire breaks are in place and maintained, inspecting and removing fire hazards, issuing relevant compliance certificates, responding to and acting on complaints received and other related activities, the CTRFS has a Fire Safety section. This is divided in two categories, namely:

Inspectorate
The Inspectorate deals with complaints, inspections, certification, business licence applications, special events and the like.

Plans
This section of the CTFRS scrutinises and clears all building plans which are referred to it (in terms of the National Building regulations) for comment. The City's Building Development Management (BDM) offices are located as follows:

Fire Safety Map

Fire Safety's role is all encompassing and the section has an enforcement component attached thereto. All fire safety officers are also peace officers and are compelled to enforce any transgressions where minimum fire safety measures have not been complied with or have been deviated from.
