The final whistle: Tuesday 15 June 2010

While many spectators recovered from last night’s game between Italy and Paraguay at the Cape Town Stadium, and try to pace themselves for the Youth Day celebrations tomorrow, the party still rages on at the FIFA Fan Fest™ in front of the City Hall and in restaurants and clubs all over Cape Town.

The City is preparing for large crowds tomorrow at all venues when our beloved Bafana Bafana take on Uruguay at 20:30.

How many of the 32 flags do you recognise?

You've seen them fluttering all over town, wrapped around foreigners, waving from cars and decorating every aspect of our beautiful city, but how many of them do you recognise? To put you in the know these are the 32 flags from all the participating countries in the 2010 FIFA World Cup™:

FIFA Fan Fest, Grand Parade

Dancing a non-stop jig to the sounds of Tucan Tucan and the Moreira Project were these two giant MTN Ayoba puppets. Many fans and friends of Portugal’s team were out in force to support their team against the Ivory Coast, and it wasn’t long before many in the crowd were showcasing their unique dance moves!

Wednesday:

Diski dance your way to a world record!
Speaking of dance moves… The stage awaits your presence tomorrow as 25 000 fans will hopefully participate in the biggest ever Diski dance in the world! During the day’s festivities 200 young Diski dancers will mingle amongst visitors, teaching them the dance moves. On stage professional dancers will go through the paces, which people on the ground will be able to follow on the big screen.

At 18:00 South Africa’s successful R&B artist Loyiso Bala will take to the stage. Loyiso was once the youngest conductor of the National Youth Choir, at the age of only 19, and was head of the prestigious Drakensberg Boys Choir. Today he is a multi award-winning musician.

After final rehearsals at 19:00, the dancers will take up their position on stage alongside African drummers and various celebrities to join the crowd in the final record attempt.

The action will then move to the match between Bafana Bafana and Uruguay, which will be broadcast on the big 74sqm screen. ZUKO will bring the evening to a close at 23:00.
