International Trips

International trips are undertaken by City officials and councillors to firstly, learn about best practices used by other municipalities; secondly, build intergovernmental and stakeholder relationships, partnerships and agreements as a means of ensuring a common approach; and lastly, as a way of attracting investors and skills into Cape Town’s economy.

Purpose:

UKTo attend the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).  In recognition of the service to the Institute and as President of IMFO, Louise Muller has been nominated for this sponsored trip.  The objective of attending is to give municipal finance officials,  involved in national initiatives relating to municipal finance, the opportunity to hear about international municipal finance trends and expose them to other systems and processes and best practices implemented.

Purpose:

RussiaTo attend the SportAccord Convention which is a networking event attended by 107 International Sport Associations and Federations and more than 1000 sporting events. The purpose of which is to:

  • strengthen the Tourism, Events & Marketing departments international business network;
  • identify future events, aligned to city objectives, that the City may want to host;
  • promote Cape Town as an events destination to more than 1000 international sporting event organisers;
  • benchmark Cape Town as a hosting City against other cities as there is a City Events Workshop where cities will attend;
  • seek opportunities for Cape Town to participate in future Sport Accord Convention programmes as a presenter or entrant into the award ceremonies;
  • observe and assess Sport Accord itself as an event that Cape Town may want to attract.
