FEBRUARY 2010
Wetlands Week: 1-5 February 2010
> Wetlands and estuaries are an important ecological component of the city, to cleanse rivers and they also harbour an assortment of specially adapted plants and animals.
MAY 2010
Biodiversity Week: 10-14 May 2010
> The biodiversity of plants in Cape Town is one of the richest found in such a small area of the world. But Cape Town also has the unfortunate distinction of being the city with the highest number of threatened plant species in the world.
World Environment Week: 17-21 May 2010 (brought forward due to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ being held in June)
> World Environment Day is commemorated each year on 5 June. Visit the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) website for more on the theme and the many activities around the world.
AUGUST 2010
Energy and Climate Change Week: 16-20 August 2010
> Receive an informative presentation on the biggest environmental threat facing our planet - global warming and climate change.
SEPTEMBER 2010
Arbor Week: 30 August - 3 September 2010
> Celebrating spring and the importance of greening and tree planting.
Tourism Week: 6-10 September 2010
> Information on the importance of tourism and tourist attractions in Cape Town. A visit to the Tourist Information Centre at the Cape Town Tourism offices in Burg Street is a good starting point.
International Coastal Clean-up Week: 13-18 September 2010
> Participate in a beach clean-up at one of the city's beaches, to ensure a litter-free environment.
Heritage Week: 20-22 September 2010
> One of the City of Cape Town’s declared dignified spaces can be visited.
OCTOBER 2010
National Marine Week: 11-15 October 2010
> Activities and lessons on marine organisms living in the sea and on the sandy and rocky shores.
