Fixed Point Photography of Beaches Project

The Fixed Point Photography of Beaches Project aims to investigate spatial and temporal change over time on certain problem area beaches within the City.

All beaches undergo changes whether it is sand deposition or removal, vegetation growth, dune movement, change in beach profile and so on. Certain beaches in the City of Cape Town undergo substantial and often extensive changes seasonally and annually. The objective is to take frequent digital photographs of a fixed point on a beach and by using GIS software, overlay these pictures and hence visibly see the changes over time and furthermore determine what mitigating measures are necessary.
