Support services

The Support Services Branch provides support to the other seven branches in the department by means of administrative, financial and human resources services.

The key functions of the branch include:

Administrative support

To enable the smooth functioning of the department, core materials need to be supplied and managed for staff members. These include office furniture, IT equipment and accommodation needs. Other administrative functions include car hire, telecommunications management, correspondence and asset management.

Financial support

The branch co-ordinates the department’s budgeting for the financial year and issues financial reports. It also handles the department’s income and expenditure, using funds allocated in the capital and operating budgets.

Human resources support

All personnel administration matters for staff in the department are dealt with by the branch (e.g. employee contracts, leave, attendance registers). Input on the HR Regulations of the City of Cape Town is also provided.

Executive management and performance management support

The director of the department is assisted with the co-ordination of staff performance management services and the co-ordination of audits within the department.
