National Energy Efficiency Strategy
The Energy Efficiency Strategy for South Africa, is the first consolidated Governmental document geared towards the development and implementation of energy efficiency practices in this country. The strategy takes its mandate from the White Paper on Energy Policy, published in 1998, and sets a national target for an energy efficiency improvement of 12% by 2015.

National SANS 204 standards for energy efficiency in buildings
This standard provides a national code of acceptable practice for energy and environmentally effective building design, construction, operation and maintenance, products, systems and professional services. It stipulates that these be developed according to the targets outlined in the National Energy Efficiency Strategy for South Africa, which have been set by South African Department of Minerals and Energy (DME). The document specifies the requirements for the design and operation of energy efficient buildings with artificial or natural environmental control and their sub-systems.
