Membership

Forum membership is made up primarily of owners and managers of commercial buildings in Cape Town.

The collaborative nature of the forum gives it  far greater reach than that of single entities. The forum grows by association - each partner organisation invites their members, contacts or stakeholders, which in turn forwards the invitation to other colleagues, contacts and stakeholders.

For example, the forum benefits from the following kind of organisations which invite stakeholders in their association:

  • Cape Town Partnership
  • All City Improvement Districts within Cape Town
  • The Facilities Managers' Association of South Africa
  • The Green Building Council of South Africa
  • SAPOA (Western Cape membership)
  • South African Council for Shopping Centres (SACSC)
  • Accelerate Cape Town, which has 35 ‘big business’ corporate memberships

Research at the first meeting in September 2009 indicated that the majority (69%) of attendees were facilities/building managers, and that:

  • 15% work with just one building, and roughly half are a multi-tenanted building
  • 25% work with between 1-5 buildings, and a large majority are multi-tenanted
  • 54% work with more than five buildings, the large majority of which are multi-tenanted

The size of the forum's first meeting in September 2009 far exceeded the 60 people it was expected to draw, so much so that a larger venue had to be found to accommodate the  more than 160 people who attended. The forum will probably settle at about 200 members, although more people will probably attend when there are ‘hot topics’, such as new legislation, tariff increases or loadshedding.
