This list of links includes some of the many energy efficiency, energy savings and ‘green’ websites and organisations in South Africa. The City of Cape Town and the Energy Forum do not necessarily endorse any of these sites or organisations, but simply offer them as resources.

Eskom Integrated Demand Management - www.eskomidm.co.za
Integrated Demand Management (IDM) is the practice of reducing electricity usage (our collective demand), which is particularly important as we currently have a national shortage in our electricity supply. Eskom's IDM site is a wealth of information and contains information such as energy saving tips and programs, supplier's lists, case studies, etc.

National Energy Efficiency Campaign - www.savingenergy.co.za
A useful generic site with information for businesses and residences, including a handy ‘Business Recovery Checklist’ for saving electricity in the office.

Green Building Council of South Africa - www.gbcsa.org.za
This site lists built environment professionals who have been trained in green building methodologies and the ‘Green Star’ green building rating tool. It also has a host of other valuable resources, including a resource guide called ‘Existing Buildings Survival Strategies’, on retrofitting and refurbishment opportunities for energy management, as well as water and waste.

Southern African Association of Energy Efficiency - www.saee.org.za
SAEE's mission is to be an energy efficiency co-ordinating body and a driver of networking, information dissemination, and awareness creation in all energy efficiency matters. Its website contains information about energy efficiency training and other courses.

EcoSpecifier SA - www.ecospecifier.co.za
EcoSpecifier SA aims to help building professionals, including architects, designers, builders and specifiers, as well as homeowners, shortcut the eco and healthy materials sourcing process with its growing knowledge base of up to 1 000 verified eco-products, eco-materials, technologies and resources.

EcoStandard - www.ecoexhibit.co.za
EcoStandard offers a South African assessment tool that can be used to verify sustainable building material/products and services. The assessment is third-party audited and verified by Jeffares & Green. The website showcases products, material and service suppliers that have completed a rigorous assessment process and have met the EcoStandard criteria.

South African Association of Energy Services (SAAES) - www.esco.org.za
SAAES is a national trade organisation in the energy services industry.  Its purpose is to act as an industry voice for Energy Services Companies (ESCOs), and assist government and industry in achieving South Africa's energy targets by developing the local energy service sectors, ensuring a healthy ESCO business environment and creating an open forum between role players in the energy services business.

Cape Town Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) - www.escos.co.za
A website resource for large power uses to find out about Cape Town-based Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) that can advise them on electricity saving and energy efficiency. It offers a simple searching process for reputable ESCOs actively working in Cape Town. There are no costs involved in both listing an ESCO or searching the site.

Sustainable Energy Africa - www.sustainable.org.za
Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA) promotes sustainable energy approaches and practices in the development of South Africa and Africa. Its website offers downloads of books, posters, energy audit information and solar water heater cost calculators.

The City of Cape Town’s Smart Saving Challenge - www.savingelectricity.org.za
Practical information about why and how best to save electricity in Cape Town, along with resources, and ways to join the Smart Saving Challenge.

The City of Cape Town’s Smart Living Handbook - www.capetown.gov.za/smartlivinghandbook
A practical sustainability guide for people and households in Cape Town to make their homes safer and to save money, while working to reduce their impact on our precious environment. The book also provides information on key environmental resource issues facing us globally, and within our city.
