Disruption of Critical Services

Any disruption of critical services or supply systems such as Electricity, Water, Health, Sewerage, Stormwater, Transport, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Governmental Administration and certain commercial infrastructure can have a significant effect on the day-to-day lives of our community. It is therefore vital that all role-players develop risk-reduction, preparedness measures and contingency plans to deal effectively with any of the major critical service or supply disruptions, so that these instances can be minimised.

Community participation in the form of situational awareness for each of these services and systems, the appropriate risk reduction and contingency initiatives would greatly assist the relevant critical services in their aim of continued service delivery in our City.

The City of Cape Town is committed to encouraging the community to save as much electricity and water as possible from now on as these are very scarce resources in our country and without them our population’s survival will be seriously threatened.

By drafting your own Family Emergency Plan and identifying all your risks, including those hazards affecting your own environment, you can make a positive contribution to preparedness.
