When to complain

We encourage complainants to first try to resolve any issues with the relevant department, or the City's call centre. Their contact details are:

Tel: 086 010 3089
Fax: 0860 010 3090
E-mail: accounts@capetown.gov.za

You are welcome to contact us:

  • If your complaint is not something that should rather be dealt with in a court of law
  • If your complaint is recent (within the last 12 months)
  • If you have tried unsuccessfully to resolve the dispute through approaches to the City’s management or its internal complaints handling avenues
  • If the City has delayed too long in resolving the complaint. We undertake to respond to all communications within seven to 10 days of receipt (unless prescribed timeframes apply in terms of set procedures)
