The Environmental Management Department, with assistance from many line functions in the City of Cape Town, has been responsible for compiling an annual Sustainability Report for decision-makers and the general public.
This annual SoE report has, to date, provided historical data with respect to the functioning of the City across 14 sectors. This information has provided the ability to draw trends and to illustrate to decision-makers and others the issues requiring attention and issues where successes should be celebrated.
The Air Quality Management Unit actively takes part in this exercise and has adopted air quality indicators comparable with international guidelines. The UK guidelines which are the most stringent and well researched have been adopted. They are suitable for setting targets to strive for in the future.
