UK's top policeman visits Green Point stadium
Sir Paul Stephenson, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Services, visited the new Green Point stadium on 11 February 2009. He commented on its “jaw-dropping” beauty and its iconic setting between Table Mountain and Robben Island. Stephenson was joined by diplomats and senior police officials on the tour. (More)

Electricity supply interruption in Durbanville
The City of Cape Town will interrupt the electricity supply in the Durbanville area on Sunday, 15 March 2009 from 05:30 to 11:00. The interruption is necessary to enable City staff to carry out essential repairs to the medium voltage network to ensure the quality of supply. (More) |

2010 World Cup tickets on sale
South Africans can now buy tickets to see the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Tickets went on sale on Friday 20 February and are available from FIFA’s website and at nationwide branches of First National Bank (FNB), which is a World Cup sponsor. The tickets are to be sold in phases. The first phase runs until 31 March 2009. (More) |

Green Point Stadium roof being ‘lifted up’ The new Green Point Stadium has reached another significant construction milestone, with work starting on lifting the cables of the stadium roof. The 4 500 ton roof is a unique design feature of the city’s new multi-purpose stadium. It will hang inwards, and will be supported by an inner tension ring and an outer compression ring. (More) |
