Volunteers

Volunteers are very important to us as they provide invaluable assistance during events. They also produce and present various types of recreational programmes at some of our facilities. Without the involvement of volunteers we could not deliver effectively on our mandate.

Currently there are about 1 000 volunteers across our districts who offer their time to assist with the implementation of the various programmes mentioned. Volunteers do not get paid but gain valuable work experience and learn many personal development skills. They generally receive preference when the department appoints part-time seasonal employees.

Our Volunteer Policy details the roles and responsibilities of volunteers and includes a code of conduct for them. We also offer many training opportunities for volunteers such as the Peer Leader Training Camps. At these camps volunteers are trained in a range of organisational and life skills and are given basic coaching skills.

Volunteers also make a huge contribution to the success of major events held in Cape Town. These events offer them the opportunity to gain experience in the organisation of events. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to acquire organisational and interpersonal skills and training.

If you are 18 years and older, like working with people and would like to volunteer, please click here to view a list of our Recreation Officers.
