General Valuation Roll
The City of Cape Town’s 2009 General Valuation Roll (GV2009) was certified by the City Manager on 29 January 2010. The values on the GV2009 Valuation Roll are currently being used as a basis for property rates (effective July 2010).

General Valuation notices were sent to property owners in February 2010. These notices were also published in the Provincial Gazette and local newspapers on 12 February 2010 and 19 February 2010.

The public inspection and objection period for the 2009 General Valuation Roll ended on 30 April 2010.

Supplementary Valuation Rolls
The existing valuation roll of the municipality must be updated at least once a year. This update can only be done via a supplementary valuation roll.

Only a subset of the properties in the municipality is valued in a supplementary valuation roll. This subset is selected in terms of section 78 of the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act (Act 6 of 2004), and would include, amongst others, properties that have recently been improved or have been subdivided or consolidated. 

Supplementary Valuations Rolls produced to date

The First Supplementary Valuation Roll (SV01), Second Supplementary Valuation Roll (SV02) and the Third Supplementary Valuation Roll (SV03) were certified by the Municipal Valuer. The objection periods for these valuation rolls have expired.

Most Recent Supplementary Valuation Roll

The City of Cape Town’s Fourth Supplementary Valuation Roll to the 2009 General Valuation Roll (SV04) was certified by the City Manager on 30 September 2011. The values on the SV04 valuation roll take effect as from December 2011.
