SABC Education Careers Fair

Further education and training is the cornerstone of South Africa's democracy. Our talented youth of today need further education and training to ensure that they become tomorrow's leaders and participants in the South African economy. It is for this reason that Orbes Media, in partnership with SABC Education, launched this event where learners have the opportunity to source further education and training, thereby empowering themselves through education.

The mission statement for the SABC Education Careers Fair is "to expose approximately 35,000 Grade 9-12 learners to life skills and career opportunities, with previously disadvantaged learners, educators and schools as the main beneficiaries."

The 2009 SABC Education Careers Fair in Cape Town took place at the Bellville Velodrome from 20-22 May 2009. It was well attended by Grade 9-12 learners from a variety of schools located within the city of Cape Town.

Environmental Careers Centre
Cape Town manages and runs an Environmental Careers Centre as part of the Careers Fair, making it possible for young people to gain exposure to further education and training opportunities in environmentally related careers.

Based in twelve exhibition stands, staff of the City and its partners have one-on-one conversations with the learners, resulting in re-enforcing environmental awareness, providing environmental careers information, as well as providing possible bursary and job opportunities. The specific environmental careers that are showcased during this event are City-related careers, supported by inputs from relevant NGOs.
